LA CRUZ DE HUANACAXTLE

Iguana La Cruz De Huanacaxtle

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle ("The Cross of Huanacaxtle") is a charming coastal Mexican town that has a mix of local residents and long-stay tourists. 30 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta’s International Airport, La Cruz is a commercial and recreational fishing village with a Marina that is a popular anchorage by visiting sailors to Banderas Bay.

The town's name comes from a cross that is made of Huanacaxtle Wood, which is located at the town's entrance. These trees can be seen growing in the town square- keep an eye out for the many resident iguanas!

This colorful Mexican town has cobblestone streets, a number of small artisan shops, produce and fish markets, and access to beautiful beaches such as Playa Manzanilla, Destiladeras, Litibú, and Punta de Mita. Just a few of the recreational activities available in La Cruz include snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, whale watching and sailing. Throughout the high season, talented local musicians perform several nights a week in area restaurants that offer a great diversity of Mexican and International cuisine.

One of the main attractions of La Cruz is the famous Sunday Market (town square and marina), where local artists, restaurants, craftsmen, farmers, and other vendors offer the best of traditional and artisanal food, crafts, clothes, jewelry and much more!
